I hope all witch costumes have been dusted off, jack o’lanterns made and lit and that everyone has a suitably ghouly evening planned. To say Happy All Hallows Even to you all, I am bringing you a beast, but don’t worry, he’s reasonably tame. This lovely print is by illustrator Dominic Owen, entitled Blue Beast and is available to buy for £100 through Print Club London.

Scrapwood1 wood you believe it, Scrapwood Wallpaper!

images taken from the Scrapwood Wallpaper’s website

I am tempted to cover my entire home in these wallpapers I like them so much. The wood imagery wallpaper creates an effect is so realistic that my flat would look like a chic chalet in Switzerland (or maybe, due to its size, a sauna). All variations look superb. Scrapwood Wallpaper’s are designed by Piet Hein Eek and made in Holland, the Scrapwood Wallpaper’s come in 8 different colours and wood styles from dark to light to planks to parquet-style. Here are seven of them….

Snurkbedden do good whilst sleeping
images taken from Snurkbedden’s website

This design company from Holland are highlighting the homelessness cause with an amusing yet realistic bedlinen range. Sleeping on the streets is never a funny subject especially as the nights draw in and the weather gets colder. Here you have a chance to do your bit by buying this bedlinen as a percentage of the proceeds go towards homeless kids’ charities Emmaus (UK), Off Road Kids (Germany) and SZN (the Netherlands). Experience sleeping on the streets from the comfort of your own home, your pavement will be softer, your cardboard box warmer and your conscience will be much placated.

I do like a labour of love and these embroidered illustrations of well-known London architecture just goes down a treat. Peter Crawley can turn his needle to pretty much anything it would seem and is every good at all that he does. The simplicity is a delight and a much needed change in a world drenched in superfluous information. This very exciting collection of buildings are just a (sharp) point in the direction of what the world needs more of. Which is less.

Be it saúde, chinchín or cheers, these little beauties have me wanting to reach for that bottle of frozen vodka (in a good way). Designed by London-based Spaniard Tomás Alonso and handmade in Spain, this set of liqueur glasses and carafe is absolutely beautiful. The size and shapes of the individual glasses instantly conjure up an image of evenings spent enjoying balmy alfresco dining and all that is good with the Mediterranean style of living. Clean simple lines, these glasses are almost scientific in form yet mischievous with their elegant party-based intentions.

This idea of contradiction is visible throughout all of Tomás Alonso’s designs, as seen here with his ‘Bottle’ light, ‘Next Level’ side table and ‘Clothes Tree’ hat stand. Fun but without fuss.

For those who know me well, know that I’m a little bit obsessed with all things Spanish. I love the country and its people. The culture is rich and heavy, thick with passion & history and with a complex political past. I’m in love with it for better or for worse. I spent a month in Barcelona immediately after graduating and came across this super shop selling chocolate bars in boldly designed wrappers. A) it’s chocolate. Chocolate’s always gonna be a winner in my book and, B.) they’re beautiful and you’ll want them all regardless of flavour. The shop is Xocoa and here are some of their packet designs.

The website also states some very important facts about chocolate.

  • Efectos secundarios: necesidad de repetir y tendencia a no compartir. (side effects: creates a need to eat more and more, and never share with others.)
  • Cualquier exceso es malo: el de chocolate, además, es inevitable. (Excess of anything is always bad: with chocolate, it’s also unavoidable.)
  • Conservar en un lugar altamente secreto y lejos del alcance de ruines indeseables. (Keep in a highly secret place away from nasty crooks)
  • Consumir preferentemente antes de que se acabe. (Best consumed before it disappears.)
