Anna Marrow A Small Bird In Town

I don’t think I’ll ever stop liking Anna Marrow’s work, especially this selection which contain some of my absolute favourites. A powerful use of colour blocking complete with a nice juxtaposition of architectural details and nature (mainly birds, what else would do?). One could argue that her style is quite strong, almost aggressive, which won’t be for everyone but I really enjoy it especially when there’s so much flimsy and fluffy nonsense around. Yet, weirdly, the images have a particular sense of the holiday about them; the warmth of the colours, the extremes of colour contrasts inducing a ‘sun-saturated’ colour haze that’s reminiscent of far-flung exotic climes and yet the names and styles of the buildings are so very recognisable to what surrounds us everyday. This is by no means the extent of her range or her styles, so do have a look at her site, even if these don’t float your boat.

From left to right, top to bottom: ‘Trethwyck Tower’, 57x77cm, ‘Lighthouse in Sagres’, 57x77cm, ‘Hummingbird’, 70x100cm, ‘Colston Tower’, 57x77cm, ‘The Collosseum’, 57x77cm, ‘Angry Crow at the Off License’, 26x36cm, ‘Bubblegum Thief’, 54x39cm. All prints are for sale, please contact Anna for prices and details (information on her website).

With thanks to Anna Marrow for the use of her images.

  1. I love these! Fantastic colour combinations, and I love that the style is so strong – and that some of these birds are pretty threatening! (Agree, not a fan of the flimsy, fluffy stuff) Thanks for sharing Anna’s work – I hadn’t come across this before. This post has put some much needed cheer into my day.

  2. We featured Anna’s work in one of our shows last year, it’s truly beautiful. The vivid colours she uses do indeed remind you of sunnier climes which at the moment, let’s face it, we all need. With one of these in your home you have the perfect antidote to this year’s summer in the UK.

  3. Wow what a cool pictures are presented here, I really like this . I have to say that these is really amazing art. Color combination work is great.

  4. Strong style is my kind of style! Particularly like the taxi picture, that would look great in my living room. She’s new to me but will keep an eye out for her work from now on.
