PleasedToMeet Very Pleased To Meet

I spotted this company’s products in various hotspots around New York and liked their style instantly. Pleased To Meet is the lovechild of two German designers, Daniela Könn and Marcel Hornung, who met and fell in love whilst working in New York. Founded in 2004, they now have a lovely range of simple and charming designs spread over a variety of paper-based goods, contemporary eco ethics with a hint of mid-century style illustrations. Good colour choices too. They do have stockists worldwide but they also do international delivery so no need to panic. Here are my top-picks.

1.) I Love You wrapping paper, €2.60, 2.) New York wrapping paper, €2.60, 3.) Fawns wrapping paper, €2.60, 4.) A Good Catch wrapping paper, €2.60, 5.) Flying Birds notebook, €5, 6.) Lovebirds notebook, €5, 7.) Travel Journal, €19, 8.) Paris notebook, €7, all available from their website.

YCN wrap1 Alternative Wrap

On a post-lunch stumble with my jolly good friend Elias from Social Nesting, he took me to his new favourite treasure trove, YCN. Oh hello. A lovely mishmash of stuff, all beautifully designed and presented, you’ll be finding yourself craving all sorts of things you never knew you wanted. I think that’s the best sort of shop. I like to be surprised and fear predictability like I fear getting old. If you’re on the look out for some tasty wrap, and I don’t mean lunchables, then here’s the place. Three different designs by three different designers, you’ll bound to coo over at least one of them, if not all. I love ‘em all. At the top is ‘Cyclists’ by Evgenia Barinova, in the middle is ‘Stationery’ by Jamie Brown, and last, but not least, is ‘People & Animals’ by Daniel Frost. Lovely stuff.

A single sheet of wrapping paper is £2.50, A2 in size and printed on a 130gsm Cyclus Offset stock, available on-line and in-store at YCN, 72, Rivington Street, London.

FAO For The Attention Of:

I’m always up for a well-curated shop and FAO is most certainly that. Its selection of products covers all your basic requirements (bit of lighting, bit of homewares, some nice fashion items and the all important bits and bobs section). The entire shop is a wealth of desirability. The other points of worth, that tickle me no end, are the design and layout of the site. It’s layout is clean and tidy ensuring easy navigation and presents itself with a simple logo and brand identity. No frills shopping in the very best way, this is how it ought to be.

Betty and Dupree You, Me, Betty and Dupree

Strictly speaking, I’ve got nothing to do with it and nor will you find Owen Wilson popping up. Nevertheless Bristol-based Betty and Dupree have some splendid things and it’s definitely worth your while having a good solid mooch though their charming range. Concentrating on a small collection of designer-maker illustrators that have extended their collections into homewares and stationery, you’ll find all sorts of goodies from greeting cards to tea towels, to art work to pretty sticky tape, all of which is made here in the UK (hurray!). Clean lines, graphic styles and geometric repeats; this is the first stop for those of you for whom contemporary graphics is a love close to your heart. They also have stockists around the UK, so you may have already have spotted them. Check out their blog for bits and bobs of interesting information on what they’re up to and their featured artists.

Here are my top picks…

Abigail Borgs Notebooks Come To My Garden

This season saw the launch of Abigail Borg’s new range and a very welcome range it is. A natural tangent from fabric and wallpaper, notebooks are an easy accessory that everyone can indulge in without too much bravery or having to redecorate. If you’re too nervous to embrace big, bold hand-drawn florals in your home (shame on you) and you’ve already got more cushions than you can shake a stick at, then why not carry about your own little piece of floral fancy in hardback A5 form. What better way to celebrate the first signs of spring than with a nice cheery flowery notebook? A welcome burst of colour and I reckon they can only serve as further inspiration for all your already splendidly creative thoughts that, no doubt, you all have in abundance. The tricky thing is choosing one. I like all the designs and her colour palette so much that I think I’ll just have to have one of each. But which to start with…? All notebooks are hardback and A5, £16, available in Abigail’s on-line shop.

1.) Friti in plum, 2.) Hello Yarrow in teal, 3.) Mr Chrysanth,
4.) Lady Green, 5.) Laburnum in raspberry, 6.) Dahlia Fox in golden,
7.) Laburnum in teal, 8.) Polka Pollka, 9.) Friti in teal,
10.) Hello Yarrow in natu, 11.) Dahlia Fox in sky.

Write on notepads All wrapped up with a cheery warm glow...

All wrapped up with a cheery warm glow…and that’s not just me trying to make a nice catchy title. These three handsome looking notebooks aren’t only great, bang on trend with their use of vintage gift paper as pages and recycled but they are also exclusively designed for the charity, Oxfam. Available as a sketch books, notebooks and a writing paper and envelopes set, each item is made up of reclaimed and recycled gift wrap making these paper products an excellent and unusual gift. Bold, bright and colourful, each page is plain on one side for writing with patterns on the other and come complete with colourful elastic closing. There are even memo pads for the more forgetful member of the family. Do two a good turns with every purchase of one present.

Available to buy online and in store, ‘Must Not Forget’ memo pad (not pictured), £3.99, ‘Write on’ writing sheets and plain envelopes, £7.99, ‘Take Note’ sketchbook notebook, £7.99, and ‘Draw’ sketchbook, £7.99, Oxfam

toothpicnations logo A whole lotta Toothpickin NationsToothpic Nation were just one of the exhibitors at this year’s East London Design Show. These guys are not only an emporium of nice bits and bobs but a showcase of the best designers coming out of Asia; including  Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong amongst others. Named after the most popular and widely used tool in Asia, the toothpick, the USP of this shop is not only its unique situation of stocking product design from an area of the world we don’t get to see much from but they’ve also got a rotating theme in place. This means that twice a year, they have a new ‘season’ which ensures a whole new selection of products and designers. We’re currently on ‘Volume 1: Around the Desk’ so it’ll come as no surprise to find a collection of stationery and desk-based ephemera.

There is a shiny-edged lining to this already glorious cloud, they also have a big heart with 50% of the proceeds of the sale of one of each season’s named products going to a selected charity. This season’s elected product is the limited edition ‘Around the Desk’ eco bag whose proceeds are going to the all important Smile Cafe Project (predominantly written in Japanese) which is a not-for-profit Japanese organisation helping locals rebuild their lives and communities after the phenomenally destructive earthquake.
